Practice Update 27 March 2020 - COVID-19

We are still here!

We are wanting to update you on where we are in maintaining animal care services.

We have had confirmation from the Commonwealth Government that veterinary services are to be considered 'essential services'.

In order to maintain our ability to provide services and to protect our staff and clients we have adopted the following guiding policies:

  • all clients are required to advise us if they are subject any quarantine or self-isolation requirement or have any special risk factors for COVID-19 (so that we can plan how to assist with urgent problems). We will ask everyone specific questions abour this before attending
  • we will attend to emergencies (including surgery) subject to strict hygeinic controls
  • clients should ring BEFORE attending the surgery to arrange how attendance can be managed to minimise risk
  • clients are requested where possible to order food, wormers and freely-sold other merchandise through our online store. Hills, Royal Canin and AAdvnce pet foods are available as well as wormers and a range of merchandise. Freight free for orders over $49 and delivered to your address or the Post Offcie if you are out of town. You need to register the first time you use the store and login to order. This minimises your expsoure and risk to the clinic.
  • If you DO need to come to the clinic please use hand sanitiser in the lobby and then ring the bell ONCE gently (its's very loud) if we're not in reception and wait for us to greet you and help you. Alternatively, by preference, call us when you arrive outside and we will advise how to proceed depending on the situation..
  • At this stage we are deferring non-urgent visits and surgeries:
    • elective surgery such as desexing and non-urgent orthopaedic surgeries
    • booster immunisations for adult animals in the absence of specail risks (delay of a few months is not regarded as being a danger to the pet if fully immunised in the past).
    • chronic or long-standing illnesses that have not changed
    • clipping nails and other grooming issues where the patient is not sick or distressed
    • we have establishhed waiting lists for these procedures so we can contact you as the situation becomes clearer in coming weeks
  • Currently we  ARE providing these services:
    • EMERGENCY consultations and surgery such as for:
      • car accidents
      • snake bites & poisonings
      • serious sudden illness
      • Painful ears
      • Sore eyes (cloudy, closed, painful
      • Fractures
      • seere, painful or distressing illness and injuurues
      • ongoing treatments
      • not eating, vomiting or diarrhoea where the patient is unwell or severely distressed
    • Repeat medication for ongoing conditions will be provided through non-conact delivery by prior telephone order. If recheck is needed this will be done where possible by telephone or other technology
    • Consultations, medication repeats and rechecks after surgery will be done remotely where possible, with appointments arranged when necessary
  • We have enhanced clinic hygeine processes in place to maintain the safest environment we can.
    • This includes regular sanitising of counters, doors and handles and other surfaces.
    • Requiring everyone attending the clinic to use hand sanitiser on arrival and before departure
    • Not having people with known risk factors or under isolation or quarantine attend the clinic

We now have self registration facilities so you can register your arrival and your dog's weight on an i-Pad as you arrive. Please sanitise hands before and after using the i-Pad.

We believe we can get through this difficult time by cooperating together and taking care to follow the advice of health authorities. We all need to be especially careful of each other to provide support and friendship as best we can in htses time of physical isolation. We owe ot to the community and to each other and to thoise whose live we can save by imposing a little inconvenience on ourselves.

We llook forward to normal life on the other side of the COVID bridge!
