HORSE DEATHS REPORTED IN VICTORIA
Dr Greg McIntyre
18/07/2023
You may have heard that there have been some so far unexplained deaths in horses in southern parts of Victoria.
The Department of Agriculture is investigating together with other veterinary and health authorities.
So far detailed investigations have not found a cause for these deaths. At present there are no indications of Hendra virus infection or other diseases that might affect humans and there seems to be no rapid spread.
If you have unexplained illness or deaths of horses please notify your veterinary practitioner or the Exotic Animal Diseases Hotline on 1800 675 888.
While there is no clear evidence of the nature of any risk, hygienic precautions should be observed to avoid any possible transmission of disease to other horses or people.
