As one of the few veterinary practices in Central Victoria providing 24/7 emergency veterinary services, we are grateful to our vets and vet nurses who put themselves on hold overnight and at weekends and on public holidays to be available for callback to attend to emergencies and urgent cases locally here in Kyneton.
In larger cities and many rural areas, most veterinary practices close their doors at the end of the day and refer all cases to emergency centres which may be far away from their local area. By their nature, these centres are expensive to run and consequently examinations and treatments can be very costly as well as the extensive travel required to reach them and often with long waiting times (like in the human system emergency rooms).
Here at McIntyre Vets we are proud to provide constant availability (by callback) of our local veterinarians for domestic pets and for our production and farm animal patients. In order to do this and sustain the health and strength of our vets they work on a roster basis either answering your calls directly or taking calls from our triage partner where urgent attention is required. Generally our vets will answer your calls directly, but at very late hours or if our vets are very busy with patients, calls may be referred to our triage partners where telephone or video conferencing can be used to determine if face to face attention is required or if home care can be applied until regular office hours.
Please limit after-hours calls to genuine emergencies and remember our vets are taking calls at home and still need to come to work the next day. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work hard to provide the best after-hours emergency service we can.
Because of the costs of providing this service, clients should be aware that we need to use substantial surcharges for visits and examination out of hours and that these charges are very competitive compared to the other options available.
